Welcome to Fern and Feather Forest School!

What do we do?

We’re a Forest School outdoor stay and play based at Primrose Lane Primary School in Boston Spa. Our warm and welcoming sessions let your child's imagination and curiosity guide the way. We firmly believe that every child has the right to play, explore, and discover the world around them so that they can experience the joy and wonder of nature. So come and join us to get muddy, make new friends, and have FUN!

Why Fern and Feather?

We believe in the Forest School philosophy of child-led learning, safe risk-taking, and providing opportunities for children to develop a deep connection with nature. These experiences lay the foundation for:

  • Physical development and coordination
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Creativity and imagination
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • A lifelong love of the outdoors

There are many benefits for the children at Fern and Feather but it's also about the adults, and we offer a warm, welcoming space for adults to connect in nature as well.

Yes, mostly! We are only closed when Liz is on holiday with her family so if there are dates unavailable to book on Happity up until the end of August, that is why! We will also have some Friday sessions during some school holidays.

The weather can be unpredictable and we will be outside so warm and waterproof clothes are recommended in the colder months especially. Layers are best when it is cold. There are often messy play activities and our fabulous mud kitchen is always accessible so wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy. Closed toe shoes are recommended all year round.

Two adults per child are welcome to all sessions (but visiting grandparents are always welcome too!)

We offer Forest School sessions for early years and primary aged children, however we are currently working exclusively with Primrose Lane Primary School for school sessions.
